The journey
This isn't your standard Bali trip. Over 4 days, you'll summit an active volcano at sunrise, rock climb the ancient caldera walls, explore Bali's highland temples and rice terraces, and stay in boutique accommodation in Ubud and Kintamani, the mountain villages most tourists never see.
Mt Batur (1,717m) is one of Bali's most sacred mountains and an active volcano sitting inside a massive caldera alongside Lake Batur. The pre-dawn summit hike is unforgettable. You'll watch the sun rise over Mt Agung, Mt Abang, and the caldera lake from the crater rim while your guide cooks breakfast on volcanic steam vents.
The rock climbing day is unique to this trip. The caldera's volcanic walls offer natural climbing routes with stunning views over the lake below. All equipment and instruction is provided, suitable for beginners through to experienced climbers. This is the perfect short adventure for anyone visiting Bali who wants more than beaches and rice paddies.

Common questions
Do I need to be fit to climb Mt Batur?
+No serious fitness is required. Most people of average fitness manage the 2-hour summit hike comfortably. It's steep in places but the pace is relaxed and there are plenty of rest stops along the way. If you can climb a lot of stairs, you can climb Mt Batur.
What time does the climb start?
+2am pickup from your Ubud hotel, 3:30am start at the trailhead. You'll reach the crater rim before 6am, in time for sunrise. Yes, the alarm is painful. No, you will not regret it.
Is the sunrise guaranteed?
+Weather dependent — cloud cover can occasionally obscure the view. Our guides use seasonal patterns to maximise your chances, and even on cloudier mornings the crater rim experience is extraordinary. The volcanic steam vents breakfast is a highlight regardless of cloud cover.
Do I need prior rock climbing experience for Day 3?
+No experience needed at all. All equipment is provided on the day and our guides give full instruction before you start. Routes cater for complete beginners through to experienced climbers, so everyone moves at their own level.
Can I join as a solo traveller?
+Absolutely. Solo travellers are very welcome on all Batur departures. It's a sociable trip with plenty of shared experiences to bond over — especially the 3am wake-up call.
Is travel insurance required?
+Yes, mandatory. Must cover adventure activities including hiking and rock climbing. We'll confirm your policy before departure.
What's the cancellation policy?
+A $300 deposit secures your spot. Full payment is due 30 days before departure. Cancellations with 30+ days notice receive a full deposit refund. Contact us for cancellations inside 30 days.
